Artists Statement:
PHOTOGRAPHY FOOD ART FUN

Food is an integral part of our memories, culture, and everyday lives. Toys by their miniature nature create a different perspective, easily drawing us into another point of view or our own past. Using toys and food I am able to construct worlds from my personal memories, but upon further examination reveal unexpected and playful scenarios that may seem strangely familiar.
I like blurring the lines of reality by manipulating the scale of people and food. Basically, I tell stories – sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, but always rooted in our universal connection to food.
-M. Carden

"With a dreamy quality his work creates worlds somewhere between reality and memories...." -R. Hackert, Collector

More about Matthew:
Los Angeles born Artist Matthew Carden grew up on a hearty diet of museums, theme parks, TV, and Movies. This abstracted world of toys, pop culture, and imagery of the 70's and 80's formed Matthew's colorful way of seeing and creating images.

When he was 20 he moved to San Francisco, finished school at SFAI, then opened the first fully Digital photo studio in the Bay Area. He then teamed up with his future wife, specialized in food photography, worked for an impressive list of clients, won awards, and traveled extensively for a wide range of projects.

"He approaches every subjects with a curiosity and sense of humor; juxtaposing food and common everyday items in unexpected ways to illustrate an idea or tell a story."
-A. Martin, Art Director

"...he has his very own perspective on food – quite literally: his work allows us to see food in a unique, witty, and enchanting way; close up, like a wildlife biologist who has managed to creep up on the object of his research."
-M. Hoffman, Regal Literary

Matthew and his wife (a Chef/Author/Stylist) still provide food Photography and Styling for clients. Their website is 350degrees.com.

Matthew's current projects include an exciting online project launching in January 2013, upcoming exhibitions, and exciting new commissioned pieces for private and public spaces.

His work is collected and published internationally.
